Week-long international workshop held on HVAC & R

ALIGARH  : The Department of Mechanical Engineering, Z. H. College of Engineering and Technology, Aligarh Muslim University organized a week-long International Workshop on “Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC and R)” in online mode.

Welcoming the guests and participants, Prof M. Muzammil (Chairman of the department) discussed the importance of HVAC, which aims at providing the occupants with a comfortable and healthy living environment. He said that HVAC is not just heating and cooling but also provides moisture control, indoor air quality and building durability.

In his presidential remarks, Prof M. Altamush Siddiqui (Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology) urged for expertise in HVAC systems and stressed the need for energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable buildings. He said the present event is being organized under the G-20 theme.

Mr Adil Inam, Business Manager, Intercol Bahrain was the chief guest for the Inaugural session.

Prof. M. M. Sufyan Beg (Principal, ZHCET) highlighted the significance of HVAC in the area of computer and electronic systems and briefed about the historical background of ZHCET, with a special focus on the accreditation of its programmes and rankings.

Workshop coordinator, Dr Taliv Hussain delivered the welcome address and highlighted the main features of the workshop.

Another workshop coordinator, Dr Mohammad Asif said that eminent speakers from academia and industry across the globe delivered lectures in emerging areas of HVAC&R. Mr Adil Inam (Business Manager, Intercol Bahrain) spoke on “Decarbonization and Role of HVAC Industry”, while Dr Manoj Kumar (NIT Srinagar) delivered a lecture on “Application of Desiccant Materials in the field of Solar Energy”. Dr Ankit Yadav (Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh) gave a talk on “Thermal Energy Storage and Management” and Dr Laxmikant Yadav (NIT Hamirpur) spoke on “Emerging Aspects of Purge, Novel Designs and Configurations of Rotary Dehumidifier for HVAC Application”. Dr Farrukh Khalid (IIT Guwahati) spoke on “Use of Energy Analysis for HVAC processes” and Dr Amit Kumar (SVNIT, Surat) presented his talk on “Fundamentals of solar energy and integration of solar energy with desiccant air conditioning”.

Mr Abhishek Jain (Air Flow Pvt. Ltd. and student activity chair, ASHRAE India Chapter) spoke on “Fan Basic with System Curve” while Mr Abid Husain (Senior Consultant, ASHRAE) gave a lecture on “Sustainable green building design of HVAC”. Prof. Rajesh Kumar (Delhi Technological University) spoke on “Thermodynamics of Multi-Effect Vapor Absorption Refrigeration System” while Dr Avadhesh Yadav (Associate Professor, HBTU Kanpur) delivered a lecture on “Desiccant Cooling System”. Dr Farrukh Khalid also shared his experience with the workshop and thanked the organizer for conducting the successful event.

Dr Mohammad Asif presented a report on the workshop. He said that a total of 250 participants registered while 104 participants attended the workshop.
