The annual international assessment of global institutions has positioned Queen’s as 198 out of 1799 institutions worldwide based on performance data across research, teaching, citations, industry income and international outlook.

Welcoming the latest assessment, Queen’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Ian Greer said: “We are a world-class international university built on teaching excellence, leading-edge research, innovation, collaboration, and engagement and a ranking placing Queen’s in the top 200 worldwide recognises the work we do across our subject areas.

“We are proud of the impact we make on our doorstep and right across the world. Our Strategy 2030 vision has been designed to further enhance this impact by strengthening our research position and providing opportunities for innovation which addresses local and global challenges. And, through the Belfast Region City Deal, Queen’s will lead innovation projects designed to accelerate sustainable economic growth and create jobs in Northern Ireland.”

The recent assessment follows a range of positive rankings from the REF 2021 report published earlier this year which rated Queen’s joint 1st in the UK for Agriculture, Veterinary and Food Science, 4th in the UK for Health and Biomedical Sciences and 8th in the UK for Law.

REF also rated 88% of the university’s research world-leading and internationally excellent with 99% of research environment assessed as world-leading or internationally excellent.

The University is also ranked 24th out of 130 universities in the UK by the Complete University Guide 2023. In addition, the Guide rates Queen’s as the top University in the UK in Agriculture and Forestry, Dentistry and Social work, and 2nd for Information Technology and Systems and Pharmacology and Pharmacy.

Professor Greer added: “How we are ranked by our peers and respected organisations is important as it puts our work in context; however, we are more than that. We are the people with the vision, the students with the ideas, the spin out companies with the innovation, the researchers with the know-how, the staff with the ability to deliver. We will continue as a university to change lives and make an impact at home and across the world.”
