The initiative, which is part of the UC Endowment, recently organized its first cycle of meetings, where topics such as literacy, ethics and artificial intelligence were discussed.
The Entel Sustainable Digital Transformation Endowment Chair recently organized a series of meetings with the aim of creating a space for collaboration and joint work between both institutions, in order to strengthen ties and exchange knowledge regarding the vast subject matter promoted by this chair.
In total, 4 talks were held, which were held at the company’s offices.
The first one was in charge of Professor Alfonso Otaegui , from the School of Anthropology, who addressed the challenges of Digital Literacy in older people, and in particular how they deal with the use of smartphones. In the second meeting, Gabriela Arriagada , a professor from the Institute of Applied Ethics UC and the Institute of Mathematical and Computational Engineering , referred to digital ethics as an innovation methodology, and analyzed the ethical challenges faced by organizations in the digital world. In the third meeting, the academic Sergio Vera, from the UC Department of Construction Engineering and Management, presented the existing challenges to have a sustainable digital infrastructure, and examined the challenges that organizations face to contribute to sustainability in different dimensions. Finally, researchers from CENIA (National Center for Artificial Intelligence) presented various examples in which artificial intelligence opens up opportunities for the digital transformation of organizations, which is of crucial relevance for the telecommunications industry.
Marcos Sepúlveda , academic director of the chair and professor at the School of Engineering of the Catholic University, explains that this cycle was specifically aimed at members of Entel’s executive teams that work on issues related to each of the themes of the different meetings . “The response from the audience was positive, both regarding the talks by the academics and the workshops held after the talks. In general, all the meetings were well attended by members of Entel, academics, and UC postgraduate students,” said the PhD in Engineering from the Catholic University.

As for the chosen themes, they reflect the great variety of topics that are grouped around the great topic of Sustainable Digital Transformation (TDS), identifying digital literacy, ethics in the digital world, green digitalization, as the main challenges. and the adoption of TDS-enabling technologies such as artificial intelligence. “We believe that these topics address a large part of the challenges and opportunities that arise within TDS and at UC we have various academics working on them,” says Marcos Sepúlveda.
In the future, adds the professor, the objective of the Entel Sustainable Digital Transformation Chair is to continue carrying out activities that allow addressing the issues indicated: “For this, we believe that the link between UC and Entel is key, since both organizations can support from complementary perspectives, academic and business. These activities can be: new cycles of meetings, webinars open to the entire UC community and the Entel ecosystem, promoting research and the application of these topics to the industry, to give some examples”.
