Members of Parliament have renewed their commitment to child rights saying sports is essential for all round development and inclusion of every child. To mark the #ChildRights Week, the Parliamentarians’ Group for Children, PGC hosted virtual interactive session of children with Members of Parliament representing different political parties.
Members of Parliament listened to children sharing their experiences in countering discrimination through sports. UNICEF in a statement said, the focus of World Children’s Day this year is on sports as a powerful means to promote inclusion, equality, and non-discrimination. #WorldChildrensDay is celebrated on November 20 every year to mark the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, that was promulgated 33 years ago on this day.
Opening the session, Lok Sabha MP and Chair of PGC Gaurav Gogoi said that our country is only stronger when every child gets the life that they deserve. Lok Sabha MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi said that Our children are potential giants, and we should give them every opportunity to shine.
UNICEF India Representative Cynthia McCaffrey appreciated the spirit of children to overcome gender and equity barriers.
