Aligarh : Dr Altaf Usmani (DGM, Engineers India Ltd, New Delhi) explained various aspects of gas and liquid storage for an indefinite period in the recently held technical expert lecture on ‘Concept of Storing Liquids and Gases in Underground Storages’ at the Department of Civil Engineering, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) to promote Industry-Institute Interaction.

He stressed: “Since India is on track to meet the Paris Agreement targets for reducing emissions, it is imperative that we increase the underground storage of Carbon dioxide by converting it in the liquid form”.

Dr Altaf also discussed various techniques and designs for storing gases and liquids for later consumption and spelled out how these methods help reduce carbon content.

Prof Mehboob Anwer Khan (Programme Convenor) pointed out: “India is developing five underground oil and gas storages out of which Vishakhapatnam facility is already in use”.

He elucidated why underground spaces are becoming key components for sustainable development.

The expert, faculty members and over 100 engineering students also engaged in synchronous sessions for deeper understanding of the topic.

Dr Moinul Haq conducted the program.
