CHENNAI: Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) is launching a second cohort for its industry-oriented Online Certificate Program on e-Mobility for Working Professionals. The First cohort, launched in September 2022, witnessed record levels of enrolment.

The certificate program was conceived with inputs from industry experts and is being continuously upgraded based on technology trends, market trends and industry needs.

A 6-month, 120-hour Certification Program, the working professionals are offered a unique format in which they have flexibility in watching content that is backed up with periodic live online sessions with Faculty. The clarifications and assessments on the course content are IT-enabled, with support from Teaching Assistants where required.

Registration for the next batch will be closing by the 20th March 2023. The next batch of online classes will commence on 1st April 2023. Speaking about this program, Dr. Shankar Venugopal, VP at Mahindra Research Valley and Dean of Mahindra Technical Academy, said, “This Program from CODE IITM is now a part of our reskilling strategy to address our eMobility Engineering needs. The program is more practice-oriented than concept-oriented aspects like Market, Cost, Tech Trends, Policy Trends, Vehicle Engineering, etc., made possible by industry experts and academic experts collaborating to design and create the content. This makes the course very suitable for a working professional.”

The course, being offered through IIT Madras’ Centre for Outreach and Digital Education (CODE), provides an overview of the e-Mobility Eco-System as well as basic fundamentals in technical areas such as vehicle development, power electronics, battery engineering, thermal management, power trains, and EMI/ EMC, among other areas.

One of the learners, Mr. Syed Saleem Saveen, a Senior Manager in the Automotive Sector, said, “The program features an appropriate mix of inputs from academia and industry professionals. I found the right combination of Market, Cost, Technology and Application Engineering. There are more areas that can be covered to improve relevance to Industry professionals- but this is a very good start. I wish the Program well and am looking forward to more such offerings from IIT Madras.”

Elaborating on this program, Prof. Devendra Jalihal, Chairman, Centre for Outreach and Digital Education (CODE), IIT Madras, said, “We worked with Industry leaders and designed this course to suit Working Professionals who are looking to get an overview of eMobility. We knew then that it was a unique offering with very high value. But none of us in the team expected such high appreciation and enrolment for the program. Both companies and individuals were very happy with the structure, content and delivery of the program. We now know that we can offer this Program globally across time zones. We had to reduce theory and increase application, and brought Industry Professionals to deliver a significant portion of the content.”
