IIM Amritsar will host Prof Jean Tirole, Nobel Laureate in Economic Sciences, at Hotel Radisson Blu Amritsar, on 23 November 2022. Prof Tirole will deliver a lecture on the topic “Are Markets Moral”. The event is a part of the lecture series by the Indo-French Center for the Promotion of Advanced Research (CEFIPRA), which strives to promote quality information exchange between the two nations. The event will be attended by various dignitaries, including Prof Nitin Seth, Director, CEFIPRA, and Didier Raboisson, Senior Official, Embassy of France to India.
Prof Tirole won the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences for his extensive research in market power and regulation in 2014. His work in game theory, economics, and psychology is unparalleled and has earned him numerous accolades. He is affiliated with MIT, where he holds a visiting position. He is also the honorary chairman of the Foundation JJ Laffont-Toulouse School of Economics (TSE). Yrjo Jahnsson Prize of the European Economics Association (1993), gold medal of the CNRS (2007), and BBVA Frontier of Knowledge Award in economics, finance and management (2008) are just a few of his accolades. He has delivered over 100 lectures worldwide, authored 12 books and over 200 articles, and his field of study has found use in various industries, including banking to telecommunication.
Prof Nitin Seth, Director CEFIPRA, thanked the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, and Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, Government of France, for extending their support to CEFIPRA’s endeavors of making the research exchange between the two nations more robust. He mentioned various projects undertaken by CEFIPRA, which include contribution to the knowledge and repository of many top science and technology researches. He added that the collaboration with IIM Amritsar would foster a strong relationship among the institutions and strengthen the information exchange between the two nations.
IIM Amritsar’s Director Prof Nagarajan Ramamoorthy, said that in this highly disruptive market, the question of morality takes precedence. This would be an excellent opportunity for people in industry and academia alike to listen to Prof Tirole. He, in his statement, thanked CEFIPRA for organising the lecture and said that the institute looks forward to collaborations with the organisation. On the topic of the lecture, Prof. Pavneet Singh, Assistant Professor in Economics and MBA Chairperson at IIM Amritsar, said that this talk would provide a platform for the managers of the future to learn from a person as notable as Prof Tirole and later implement these learnings in various domains of management.
