Commemorating the class of 2023 at IIM Amritsar’s convocation ceremony

IIM Amritsar awarded MBA and EMBA degrees to its 7th MBA batch and the first batches of MBA-BA, MBA-HR and EMBA in the convocation ceremony held on 2nd April 2022 at Hotel Radisson Blu, Amritsar. The students received their degrees on the recommendation of the academic council as per the IIM Act 2017.
Besides its flagship MBA Program, IIM Amritsar started its maiden MBA-BA, MBA-HR, and EMBA programs beginning in the 2021 academic year. The MBA batches successfully concluded their placements while excelling at their academics simultaneously. The first batch of EMBA was also a huge success; a testament to that is the number of success stories in many students. 223 students in the MBA batch, 24 students in the MBA-BA batch, 10 students in the MBA-HR batch, and 34 students in the EMBA batch constituted a total of 291 students who graduated from IIM Amritsar this year.

The event, Convocation Address, and Director’s Report

Dr Pushp Kumar Joshi, Chairman and Managing Director of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, graced the ceremony as the Chief Guest. Mr Sanjay Gupta – CEO, Dainik Jagran, Chairman – BoG of IIM Amritsar; Dr Nagarajan Ramamoorthy – Director of IIM Amritsar; Ms C S Gorika Arora, Chairperson – ICSI, Ms Sheila Nair, Shri Balraj Kishore Namdeo, Dr. Harpreet Kaur and Dr. Mahima Gupta – BoG Mmeber were also present during the convocation ceremony along with the other faculty and staff members of IIM Amritsar. The event was hosted by Dr. Pankaj Gupta and Dr. Mahima Gupta.
Shri Sanjay Gupta, the esteemed Chairperson of BOG at IIM Amritsar, graced the 2021-2023 batch with his presence and conferred degrees upon 291 bright students. With joy in his heart, he congratulated the graduates on their accomplishments and urged them to celebrate their achievements. Drawing from his vast experience as a CEO, Mr Gupta imparted invaluable wisdom, stressing the importance of humility and treating everyone with respect, regardless of their background or profession. He urged the students to stay up-to-date and curious, reminding them that an inquisitive mind is an asset that can take them far in life. Mr Gupta also emphasized the significance of a balanced lifestyle, urging the batch to prioritize physical wellness through sports or yoga. As he concluded his inspiring address, he reiterated that failures are a part of life but should not deter one’s spirit. He urged the students to pursue their passions fervently and strive towards a fulfilling life.
Dr. Nagarajan Ramamoorthy, the Director of IIM Amritsar, began his inspiring address with a powerful message, “Remember, you are the face and torchbearers of IIM Amritsar. Your actions and deeds will continue to impact the institution, so always abide by the values you have taught in these years.” With a heart full of pride, he shared that the 35 faculty members of the institute had published more than 36 journal articles in national and international publications and attended 116 conferences.
Dr. Ramamoorthy also highlighted the latest additions to IIM Amritsar’s course offerings, including Data Science and Business Analytics in both online and offline modes and an Executive MBA. He expressed his delight and pride in the students’ achievements, with more than 52 awards won by them in various national competitions. He also celebrated the institute’s association with Kedge Business School and the latest addition to the international exchange program with HSE, St. Petersburg.
The Director’s optimism and confidence in the institute’s future were palpable as he announced more than 120 visiting organizations for final placements and 100 companies for summer placements. He expressed his belief that IIM Amritsar is headed in the right direction and urged the graduating students to carry the values and knowledge they have acquired as they embark on their professional journeys.
Dr Arun Kaushik, Chairperson, Alumni Affairs, congratulated the students on their achievement and officially inducted the outgoing batch as alumni of the institute.
Dr Pushp Kumar Joshi, the esteemed chief guest, set the tone by congratulating the students on this momentous occasion. He quoted from Indian philosophy, referring to the convocation as the 12th samskara, ‘Samavartan,’ where students become the bearers of society’s future. Dr Joshi emphasized that while professional success is essential, other dimensions of life exist, such as maintaining relationships, contributing to the community, and personal growth. He stressed the significance of EQ, SQ, and IQ in making a successful person. He defined SQ as finding one’s life purpose and working towards it while highlighting the importance of a long-term outlook that brings perspective and patience. In conclusion, Dr Joshi urged the students to focus on the ‘2Hs’ – hard work and humility – and wished them good luck in their future endeavours.
Awards and Accolades
Gold medals were awarded for scholastic and all-round performance during the convocation. Ms. RVSS Aparna won the gold medal for outstanding all-round performance and Mr. Kenneth Menezes went on to win the gold medal for outstanding scholastic performance in the MBA Batch. Mr. Tirtham Mukherjee and Mr. Vishnu Dhas V won the respective gold medals for outstanding scholastic performance in the MBA-HR and EMBA batches.

BOB Awards

Mr. Abhishek Sachdeva, Chief Manager of Bank of Baroda conferred the Best Scholastic Performance award to Mr. Kenneth Menezes, while Mr. Vishal Gupta won the Bank of Baroda Best All Rounder Award.

ICSI Gold Medals

In addition to this, Ms. CS Gorika Arora, Chairperson of ICSI conferred three gold medals upon the top 3 performers of the MBA07 batch. The ICSI Signature Award for standing first in the order of merit was conferred upon Mr Kenneth Menezes. Mr Pranav Mittal bagged the second ICSI Signature Award for standing second in the order of merit. Mr Abhash Jha received the third ICSI Signature Award for standing third in the order of merit.

Apart from these, the director’s merit list was also released, which comprised the top 10% academic performers of the batch. 26 students- 23, 2, 1 and 4 students from MBA, MBA-BA, MBA-HR and EMBA batches respectively- received this honour from the Director Dr. Nagarajan Ramamoorthy.
