Aligarh: Dr Taher H Pathan, In-Charge, Marathi Section, Department of Modern Indian Languages, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) said that AMU founder, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan created a roadmap that helped Indians to cope with the post-1857 challenges and his thoughts and ideas also serve as a vanguard today.

He was delivering an online lecture on ‘Sir Syed Ahmad Khan’s Thoughts and Relevance’ in a special programme of the Muslim Styashodhak Mandal, Pune, Maharashtra.

“Sir Syed’s notion of modernity held a clear view of progressivism and the colossal contributions he made were at the time when the society rigorously held traditionalism”, said Dr Pathan.

He added: “Sir Syed Ahmad Khan stands out prominently among the builders of modern India”.

“Sir Syed founded the Scientific Society, the Institute Gazette, the Tahzib ul-Akhlaq, and the annual Muhammadan-Educational Conference to remove ignorance of the masses—their apathy, inertia and superstition. He stressed on Hindu Muslim unity, co-existence and mutual co-operation”, emphasised Dr Pathan.
