The project on consolidation of the university’s corporate server infrastructure and centralized provision of resources was recognized as the best in the “Project of the Year – Global CIO” competition in the “Best Industry Solution” category. The uniqueness of the UrFU project lies in the creation of a private computing cloud taking into account the tasks of the educational institution. The head of the projectis Maksim Zolotykh, the Head of the Division of Information and Telecommunications Infrastructure of the Ural Federal University.

“The work to fill the data center of the Ural Federal University took almost five years and was only completed in early 2022. This huge work allowed the university, among other things, to launch all the services necessary for remote access in 2020 and to cope with the changing situation on the server equipment market in 2022. We are glad that this work was highly appreciated by the professional community,” emphasized Maksim Zolotykh.

Provision of access to resources is based on self-developed software, enabling to integrate with a single directory of users of the university, the distribution of access rights to resources and provide access to the console of virtual machines for their administrators.

On the basis of the created infrastructure new projects for its development will be launched not only in qualitative (increasing the share of import substituted virtualization), but also quantitative (increasing the depth of backup and increasing computing power) terms.
