International Relations, Biotechnology, Computer Science and Engineering, Physical Education and Sports – this is an incomplete list of areas in which the Ural Federal University intends to create joint graduate programs with the Eurasian National University named after L.N. Gumilev (ENU). This was discussed the day before during the negotiations of the heads of universities in Astana.

The visit of the delegation of the Ural Federal University, which included Rector Victor Koksharov, Sergey Tushin, Vice-Rector for International Relations, Aleksandr Ponomarev, Head of the Department of Youth Outreach, and Aleksandr Burnasov, Advisor to the Director of the Ural Institute of Humanities, was preceded by negotiations with Aleksey Borodavkin, the Russian Ambassador to Kazakhstan.

“Kazakhstan is a key and strategic international direction for our university, taking into account the stable integration ties and the vast majority of students from the republic among our foreign students. We are interested in further cooperation in a wide range of areas, taking into account the changing geopolitical realities,” Victor Koksharov noted.

In addition to cooperation in the sphere of education, the rectors discussed the prospects of joint research projects, participation of Kazakh students in the Youth Congress of the Ural Institute of Humanities, as well as participation of the management in the International University Sports Games, which will be held in Ekaterinburg this summer.

“We have close ties with your university and intend to intensify our cooperation, which did not stop even during the coronavirus pandemic. Many points of contact on specific projects indicate the attractiveness and relevance of our relations for both Russia and Kazakhstan,” emphasized Erlan Sydykov, Rector of the Eurasian National University.

Rectors signed an agreement on student exchange between the two universities and outlined possible steps to implement the program “Prevention of Extremism in the Youth Environment” – training specialists in this area is relevant to both countries.

Members of the delegation discussed with the administration of Nazarbayev University the participation of students from Kazakhstan as athletes and volunteers in the upcoming International University Sports Games in Ekaterinburg.

The visit of the university delegation, which began on January 31 in the Kazakh capital, will continue in Almaty: there will be a meeting of the Board of the local branch of the Alumni Association of UPI, USU and UrFU.
